12 Fun Shark Knitting Patterns to Knit for Your Kids or Grandchildren

How will you get through the scariest week on TV?

Knit your way through it!

This year, Discovery’s Shark Week starts on July 11. Jawsome celebs like William Shatner, Brad Paisley, Tiffany Haddish, and more will be joining in on the adventures.

Meanwhile, you can safely sit in the comfort of your home while knitting lots of shark-themed projects!

If you wonder what to knit for your kids or grand children…knit them a shark! I don’t know too many kids who wouldn’t LOVE to receive a chompy yet cuddly friend from mom or grandma.

I’ve rounded up 12 shark stuffed animals, a shark attack blanket, mittens, hats, cowl, and even a pencil case. Cast them on for yourself or your favorite shark lover.

It’s going to be a fin-tastic week of knitting!

I’ve included both a video and photos with links to all of the patterns and yarns.

Shark Cowl Knitting Pattern

#2. Sharkney Cowl Knitting Pattern

It’s their world and we’re all just living in it. Hammerhead, Nurse, Cookie Cutter, Blue, Thrasher, Great White—what’s your favorite shark? (Mine is the Goblin, obviously.) Share your love for these majestic, non vicious-man-eating creatures and preach the sharky gospel: Leave Sharkney Alone

This cowl is knit entirely flat and seamed once finished, and uses intarsia to create the shark and teeth images. Pattern includes both graphs and written instructions for the colorwork.

Clancy, Jr the shark is a cuddly undersea companion!

Clancy Jr is a quick knit worked primarily in the round. Because vertical stripes are difficult to achieve in the round, Clancy’s blue body and white tummy are knit as two separate pieces and sewn together at the end.

Shark Softie Toy Knitting Pattern

#5. Shark Toy Knitting Pattern

Knit your own toy shark, 15” long from nose to tail. This shark is a knitted marvel, even his pointy teeth are knitted. And with only two short seams he’s a perfect project for the knitter who doesn’t like to sew. This pattern was created for my (then) 4 year old. “Mom, can you knit me a shark?” Who can resist a design brief like that?

For an INTERMEDIATE knitter. The shark is mostly knitted in the round in one piece on dpns with some areas worked flat, there are lots of picked up stitches, some increasing and decreasing and the teeth made with short row shaping (fully explained in the pattern).

Surfer and Shark Christmas Stockings Knitting Pattern

#8. Shark Christmas Stockings Knitting Pattern

This is a knitting pattern for two Christmas stockings: One with a shark, one with a surfer, in maritime colors blue white and red. It contains a detailed, 11 page instruction how to cast on, turn the heel and shape the toe. A basic understanding of fair isle knitting and knitting on double pointed needles is an advantage. I would rate this pattern as intermediate to advanced. The pattern contains lots of photographs and the charts for both stockings.

The pattern also contains an alphabet chart and instructions how to add a name to the top of the stocking to make it a personalized Christmas stocking.

Shark Attack Lap Blanket Knitting Pattern

#9. Shark Attack Lap Blanket Knitting Pattern

This pattern is super fun to knit and makes a very funny gift.

Only children’s sizes are given, but it is easy to adapt for adults if you just knit two sections a little bigger.

You can choose to knit it back and forth like an afghan, or to knit it in the round like a cocoon or sleeping bag. It is made holding 2 strands together throughout, with larger needles, so it works up pretty fast and has a nice chunky feel to it.
