10 Adorable Thanksgiving Knits for a Fun Turkey Day

Christmas gets a lot of knitting attention, but there’s another important holiday to knit for.

How about knitting for Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is a great day…time with friends and family, a delicious meal, and a big fat turkey named Tom..let’s celebrate it with knitting goodness!

There are so many cute decorations you can create for turkey day. Most of them use small amounts of yarn. In fact, several projects are perfect stash-busting.

I rounded up 10 super-cute projects including turkeys, pumpkins, turkey hats (er, hats for you with turkeys on them…not hats for turkeys), festive garland, tiny dressed mice, a dishcloth, and even some pumpkin pie!

10 Thanksgiving Knitting Patterns

Mini Pumpkins Free Knitting Pattern

#1. Mini Pumpkins Free Knitting Pattern

Decorate your Thanksgiving table with these cute mini pumpkins. Designed by Kristin Russo, these pumpkins are small easy knits that you can whip up while watching TV or having coffee with a friend. Add a little poly-fill and you have plump stuffed pumpkins. They are great for using up stash yarn. I think it would be great to add some essential oils or spices like cinnamon and cloves to create a festive fall pomander.

#2. Trevor Turkey Stuffed Animal Knitting Pattern

Add some festive cheer to your life, whatever the season! At 23cm/9in tall when seated, Trevor is a lot smaller than the average turkey - but what he lacks in height, he makes up for in cuddliness! The colour change on his neck is worked using slipped stitches so there’s no intricate intarsia or fiddly Fair Isle.

Better still, you don’t need any extra materials to create that terrific turkey tail, which is around 23cm/9in at its widest point, just yarn and stuffing! (Don’t panic, Trevor - that’s toy stuffing, not sage and onion…)

All pieces are knitted flat on straight needles (although most can be knitted in the round). They’re then seamed and attached using mattress stitch

Two little pumpkins, one cabled and one ribbed, are sure to become some of your favorite autumn decorations. I adore these pumpkins in a natural white cotton yarn, but you could make them in orange for a more classic pumpkin look. These are knitted in the round, but a very quick project. Make a couple to take as host gifts for Thanksgiving dinner, or to adorn your mantel for Halloween night. Designed by Rachel Borello Carroll.

Mayflower Mice: Pilgrims and Indians Knitting Pattern
