Berroco North Star Yarn Review

Hello NobleKnitters! It's Donna, I'm the Knitting Doctor here at NobleKnits. Today I'm going to be sharing with you a chunky yarn from Berroco, it's called North Star. I like to think of it as an Icelandic-type yarn because of the feel of the fiber and the lightweight characteristic.

Again, this is a chunky yarn and it's going to knit up on a US 10.5 needle at a gauge of 3.75 stitches per inch. Now it is 92% alpaca and 8% nylon. That 8% nylon is going to give you a lot of substance and bounce to off-set the overall softness of that alpaca. You're going to get the best of both worlds with this one!

Let me show you a little bit about the construction of this yarn. It is done a little bit differently than your normally plied yarns. Let's see if I can pull a strand here and give you a good look at that. Ok, so this fiber is actually manufactured or milled with a chain construction. So it looks like somebody went in there with a little crochet hook and just hooked you some chains. What that's going to do is when you knit with this it's going to give you a lot of loft and bounce. The little air pockets in this yarn are going to give you a lot of lightweight softness and warmth, so it's going to trap the air.

I would choose this for sweaters, especially Icelandic models, a cowl, hat, mittens, oh gosh..even you know, a really great warm and cushy throw. Picture yourself with that throw in front of a fireplace.

Ok, two color families here. There are the browns and tans - we have a medium brown, a tan, and a winter white. And then we have the grays. There's charcoal, to medium gray, and light gray.

Again, this is North Star. It is going to be your favorite cold weather fiber for knitting cold weather gear. Thanks so much for watching. If you enjoyed this video please give us a thumbs up, comment, and subscribe to our YouTube channel

Yarn Review: Schoppel Pur Wool

Hi Noble Knitters! It's Suzanne with I'm here to showcase a brand new yarn we have, it's called Pur yarn. I just had to show it all to you today because of the beautiful colors. It's a 100% wool yarn. The yardage on it is 163 yards. The needle that you'll use is a US 10.5 and it's a bulky weight.

It's a really cool yarn because it's a single strand and it's felted. So, it's really soft, really lightweight, and it knits up beautifully. It would be great for making a scarf. There's a free pattern on our website for a cowl. Check out the website. Please like and comment below.

Retromantic Fripperies Knitting Needles Gauges

Hi Noble Knitters! This is Donna, the Knitting Doctor here at Today I'm here to share one of my very favorite knitting accessories with you. They are needle gauges made by a company called Retromantic Fripperies. They are made out of wood and we have some really traditional motifs. One of my favorites is Margaret the Cat and we have a traditional Fleur de Lis. Here's some more Stitch on Wheels, a traditional Sheep, a beehive (also known as a bee skep), and an "&" symbol keystroke

These are all very generously sized, gift for the knitter. Let me show you how they are used. I have a knitting needle and I'm not sure what size it is. So, you'll need to find a hole where the needle tip fits snuggly. So I'll keep moving to smaller holes until the needle fits snug. At a 10.5 I have wiggle room. So I move down to a size 10 hole and the needle fits so I know, that is the needle size.

Very useful tool! Again, perfect gift for the knitter, gift for a knitting friend or guild member, and absolutely for yourself! These are from Retromantics. Here are the full size and they also come in a key fob (travel) size. Here's our Margaret the Cat in the smaller size. She is the perfect size to fit on the chain that I have for the Retromantic Ruler necklace. It is a four inch ruler - very useful for checking your stitch gauge. The necklace hits at just the right spot, so I'd absolutely at my Margaret Travel needle gauge to that necklace.

These are all available at, thank you so much for viewing.
