Longevity Shawl Knit Along

Longevity Shawl Knit Along

Longevity Shawl Knit Along

Hello Knitters!  It's KnitDocDonna here to introduce one of my favorite projects and a very special knit! If you could only choose just one accessory piece what would it be?  Something versatile, luxurious, timeless and at the same time practical? That's what was on my list so here's my choice.

Meet "Longevity" a generously sized cashmere blend shawl built to not only stand the test of time, but actually improve with each and every wearing.  And, I'm betting you'll wear it often!   Unblocked Longevity measures in with a 50" wingspan and 22" length for a pared down shawlette look. But open it up with a little blocking and it blooms to a  60" wingspan with a 30" length allowing you to drape it in several ways.  The choice is yours!

A Little About This Knit Along
Longevity is a 2 skein top-down triangular shawl that builds outward and downward from a provisional cast-on and i-cord  tab.  Alternating bands of simple to execute stitches form the motifs of the shawl body.  Selvedge edges and a gently fluted ruffle provide just the right finishing touches.

Just the Right Yarn
We've been waiting for just the right yarn for Longevity and we found it in Art Yarns latest offering "Merino Cloud".  If you are already an Art Yarns fan you will know that Iris Schreier produces probably one of finest grades of 100% luxury cashmere available.  The same grade cashmere (20%) is spun with fine merino (80%) by Italian mills producing a non-pilling, dk yarn that rivals the luxury line for softness and touchability.  Other great advantages of this fiber is that it will continue to blossom and bloom when worn (think pearls worn next to the skin). Merino Cloud will take a good soaking and also develop a finely textured halo.  All in all, I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed working with this yarn and appreciating the saturated color of the skeins, but don't take my word for it, see it for yourself!
