American Pride: Oregon Born and Raised Yarn!

Life on the ranch at Imperial Stock Ranch
Born in the USA, Imperial Stock Ranch
Since 1871, Imperial Stock Ranch has been a working ranch producing grain, hay, grasses, cattle and sheep. This more than 30,000 acre Oregon ranch also produces luxurious homegrown wool that is second to none. We are proud to present you with their yarns.

Today's featured yarn: Bulky 2-Strand Pencil Roving Yarn
Imperial Stock Ranch
Bulky 2-Strand Pencil Roving Yarn
You know it's a good yarn when the ball is so big they have to call it a "cake!" We fell in love with these big cakes of fluffy yarn! Imperial Stock Ranch Bulky 2-Strand is a pencil roving (so it feels barely spun and light), that has been double stranded.  At a stitch gauge of 2-3 stitches per inch, it results in some pretty quick knitting projects. The colors of this and all Imperial Stock Ranch yarns are custom colored in tones that reflect the ranch's unique high-desert landscape.

Headgear! A new pattern for Knit One Crochet Too Crock-O-Dye Yarn

Trying out Knit One Crochet Too's
Purple Waves Headband

Pattern Review! Head out in style! My daughter is modeling Knit One Crochet Too's Purple Waves headband. "It feels comfy to wear." I think that's because the band is nice and wide at the top to show off the beautiful stitch detail, then ribbed at the back of the neck for a snug fit. It's shown in one of Crock-O-Dye's new colors for spring, Currant. Since Crock-O-Dye is a hand dyed yarn, there is a lot of color depth. It looks really pretty when knitted up - you can see the soft color variation in the photo above. I'm going to knit mine for wearing after the gym or when I'm running late and don't want to head outside with bedhead. :)
This pattern also features a coordinating scarf - you can knit both with just two balls of Crock-O-Dye.

Passing on the love of crafting and creativity

I knit's Kate the Kitten in Britches pattern a few years ago for the shop. Now, she keeps me company in my studio. She has always been one of my favorite projects. I love her crazy eyes, her big belly and her striped britches. Recently, she is often missing from her spot on my shelf. It turns out my daughter's best friend loves Kate and whenever she comes to play, Kate is always in her arms. So I knitted a Kate the Kitten for her, too. I had to wrestle the girls away from playtime to take this photo. They both love their Kate the Kitten.

After knitting these Kate the Kittens, I realized it's even more important to give the girls the opportunity to enjoy creativity as much as I do. I've already taught my daughter and some of her friends knitting and they all love it. Currently, they are really into little animals and creatures - a great way to show them how to create a pattern and learn some some basic sewing techniques. So a fun trip to the fabric store allowed us to pick out fabric, trims, buttons, and sewing supplies. Two of my daughter's friends came over and they planted themselves in the crafting room for more than 8 hours! The girls seemed to love everything that I love about crafting: fawning over the materials, choosing a project, and just hanging out together discussing their projects and everything else going on in their lives. It was truly an enjoyable day, one I will remember for a long time to come.
March is National Craft Month, pass your love of crafting on to someone you care about!
Spending the day sewing. Fun for all!

How do we celebrate St. Patrick's Day? With Irishgirlieknits Patterns!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  How do knitters celebrate St. Patty's Day? With Irishgirlieknits patterns!

Fitting for today, we are featuring Irishgirlieknits patterns for Kollage Yarns. The first pattern, My Kind of Saturday is a one-ball knitting project (we love that!). It's super soft because it uses Kollage Riveting yarn made from recycled blue jeans. The second pattern is Le Petit Pont Scarf and may be knit using either one or two balls of Kollage Creamy yarn. Creamy light and silky because it's a milk/cotton blend (yes, real milk).
Wishing you a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Knitting In Color

Just in from designer, Christel Seyfarth - The Bon Bon Shawl kit. We fell in love with her work because of her amazing use of color. It looks like you change colors the entire way through, but really the color changing work is done ahead of time. You combine colors included in the kit to make two "magic balls." Then, you'll actually knit the project using only those two balls of yarn in a fair isle pattern. Watching the pattern come to life is a true delight in this generously sized shawl.
