The yarn is double throughout, so it knits up quickly, woo-hoo!

Can I take my knitting needles on an airplane?

It's Summertime - Can I take my knitting needles with me when I travel?

I'm getting ready to fly in a few days, and even though I've taken my knitting needles on airlines countless times since the TSA came about, I always panic and ask a few friends if it's still okay.
Knowing that I'll have more than 14 hours of flying time the thought of being without my sticks throws me in full panic mode.

So here it is, the official word from the TSA!

You CAN take knitting needles on an airplane!

"Knitting needles are permitted in your carry-on baggage or checked baggage."

"Items needed to pursue a Needlepoint project are permitted in your carry-on baggage or checked baggage with the exception of circular thread cutters or any cutter with a blade contained inside which cannot go through the checkpoint and must go in your checked baggage."

But don't just take my word for it. Go to the TSA Website and print the ruling on Transporting Knitting Needles and Needlepoint for your records. I always print it out and carry it with my plane ticket. In case you get an uninformed agent and they try (oh, the horror) to take your knitting needles!

June Flower of the Month Yarn from Fiesta!

Here's the newest Fiesta Yarns Flower of the Month yarn drying in the sunshine. This month's featured flower is the Rose. Beautiful tones of yellow, deep red, pink, orange on a bed of periwinkle to really make those colors pop - the results of this color combination is amazing. Looking out at my backyard full of those same colors, our friends at Fiesta Yarns really captured the essence of June's color palette.

The yarns just arrived in the shop and the fibers are delightful as well. Included in the June Flower of the Month yarn collection are:

  • Fiesta La Luz Yarn - made from the highest quality Mulberry silk, spun for a soft hand and silky sheen. This dk weight yarn has beautiful color depth and is a delight to knit.
  • Fiesta Baby Boom Yarn - not just for babies! This fingering weight Superwash Merino yarn contains a bit of nylon for added resiliency - great for knitting socks, hats, gloves, and sweaters.
  • Fiesta Ballet Yarn - this magical yarn is combination of superfine alpaca and tencel. Softness and drape like no other yarn! Knits up at a dk weight - check out the Ballet Flower Shawl project featured for Ballet, a 3-ball project.
Just like each Flower of the Month Collection, these yarns are only produced during a limited time. After June 2010 the collection will be retired.
