Two Mitered Square Knitting Projects!

Have you ever tried knitting mitered squares?

Once you get the hang of them, the are really easy and a lot of fun. Since they tend to be small, mitered squares are a portable project. What makes a mitered square so unique is that you cast on the number of stitches for the sides and then decrease stitches in the middle (that's what creates that interesting ridge in the square as you can see from the photo below) until there are no more stitches remaining. Voile! Square completed.

Try a sample square before jumping in! Here's a link to a sample square pattern.

Knit One, Crochet Too's Painted Diamonds Bag Pattern

This one was spotted at the TNNA Spring Show in San Diego, CA. We love it because it was knit out of an earthy-toned color palette (Paintbox color: Brook Trout), very pretty and wearable.
Only 4 balls needed to make this project!

I love to knit you and you're so cute!

Awww! Isn't she cute? This adorable baby alpaca was born just a few days ago. Her momma's name is Hope, named in memory of a woman who died of cancer. Alpaca Farm Girl is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sales of all alpacas from Hope’s bloodline to cancer research. How amazing is that? Read more at this little baby and all things alpaca (they have more than 75 alpacas!) at Alpaca Farm Girl.

Llama Cotton Grande

I love knitting with chunky yarn, but when it comes to chunky weight cotton, "chunky & cotton" mix like oil & water. The cotton tends to be too heavy and the garment may double in size. Also, cotton doesn't have a lot of give, so knitting with it on big needles isn't easy on your hands.

Along comes Plymouth Llama Cotton Grande! This new chunky weight cotton/llama blend a knitters dream. It feels like cotton and has the added softness and give of llama. Now you can knit using a chunky weight yarn for spring and summer.
